Artist's Comments

Not one of my favorites, which is why I like to draw big, because one can draw more detail. The people look like they're dancing. The pillars did not come out the way I hoped.

But I like everything else.

And it IS one of my favorites. =) The people do look like they're dancing, but without knowing the storyline behind the illustration, it's still a compelling composition. Cool work!

I like this, would you consider making the shades darker after you scan them?

That requires some Adobe work. I'll have to mess around with that some more. I have a very old version of it and I haven't experimented much with it. But yeah I can do that.

You know I am something of a purist when it comes to scanning my work. What you see is exactly how it is drawn. Using PC programs to make things darker, lighter, or different than how I drew it seems like cheating a little. I mean it is so easy to just make things different, requires just a click of the mouse. Which is why I've shied away from using Adobe somewhat.

then use Gimp. don't knock Adobe just because you heard the term ';photoshopped' a lot.

previsualize the tones you want and do it. Ansel Adams - a photographer that a lot of people put on a pedestal - talked a lot of about previsualizing and he wished there was a convenient digital way at the time to create what he actually wanted.

hope that helped

I'm not saying I'm opposed to using photo manipulation programs of any kind. I'm just saying I have Adobe and though I know how to use it, I've played with it. I just choose not to manipulate my illustrations because I am old school. I am in love with the process of working at my shading the traditional way, by working at it. Its just too easy doing it with a program, less work.

That is not say I wouldn't do it because I do embrace technology. But on my next illustration I'll take your advice and we'll see how it turns out.

Lovely background. Did you use a reference?

Kepan and Fortis are fighting over a woman. She is in love with Fortis, but Fortis will never be able to return her affections. Kepan is the religious leaders bodyguard and he has taken it upon himself to also try to guard her heart.

Oh yeah, absolutely. I have many, many, old castle interior pictures. They're all B&W photos of castles. Enough to fill 3 binders.

Wow! I don't know why...but I like this alot. It's all rather mysterious. I'm sure its part of your story :D But great...intriging :D x
